Default Share the knowledge aka Yes we allow linking.

Okay, I get to post this as yes... I'm the admin. While reviewing some recent threads (one in particular in this forum from 2 weeks ago - http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10065968) I kept seeing the statement appear that GWG doesn't allow outside linking. I'm hoping that at least some of you are familiar that yes we do (but post after post I didn't see anyone correct someone, so maybe not). We have the GW Wiki forums housed here, we have our Game & Dev Tracker section that links to all the other fansites. We encourage the sharing of information and linking!!

Each community and site has so many aspects individual to it. From Photics.com (new issue out, stop by and see it), to GuildWiki.org (all hail the encyclopedia of all-things-GW), GameAmp (really, check out their maps... wow), GWOnline (elite fansite just like us), IQ (it's own compendium of pvp articles, discussion and good advice) to the other fansites both foreign and US, the various guild websites... well you get the point.

Share the knowledge!

It is GWO that doesn't allow offsite links, for those who are miffed.
Share the knowledge, folks. What did you learn in elementary school?

Google ads are just a tricky sort. They have to be gotten rid of as they pop up. I know that the Wiki has spoken of it in the past and continually works on that.

Thanks for the clarification Inde! I myself was under this erroneous assumption not very long ago! Until Inde bonked me on the head

>_> I guess I am one of those that will try before assuming as I have never had any issue with outside linking... I just figured people would get it right in due time.

You should talk to GWOnline admin, and get them to allow linking aswell.

This really isn't about that. This was about policy on our site that I wanted to clarify because of a recent post is all. Please don't think there's some bitter rivalry here, I respect their mods and admins more than most of you know. They have the same job and goals as us, to provide a guild wars community. Really just an FYI for our community here.

The fact that GWGuru allows linking, while GWOnline does not, is one of the primary reasons that I switched to GWGuru.

Looks like Cyan got mixed up and thought we weren't allowed to link to GWOnline because of their link rules. Or something.

No, i mean that GWOnline dont allow linking. That's why Inde should talk with one of them, and see if they can agree to be completely open with linking to other sites.

They want you to create an account, so they get more members = more activity. It also helps alot on the amount of guests that makes the site slower(Like here on Guru) or am i mistaken something?

Their size probably stems from the fact you can't look at the forums without signing up.

Okay, please don't make this about GWO And need I mention that we are close to breaking a record with 6000+ guests and this site is handling it just fine. Again, about 2 weeks ago we worked out the server issues. We are processing queries faster then ever. Besides the occassional glitch I haven't had any problems with GWG in the last 2 weeks.

If we allow linking here than why are we typing GWOnline, IQ, and GameAmp to talk about other fansites and not typing:

http://www.gwonline.net

http://www.team-iq.net
http://guildwars.gameamp.com/

Am I going to be banned for posting this?

Um, lazy? LOL! I think I did plug all the sites in my first post with reasons to go to them. I mean, we don't want someone to feel they can spam or advertise a site just to do that. There's a place for guilds to post their websites on this forum in our Guild Discussion, other fansites are regularly linked to in threads from Community Works to Off-Topic. We don't allow guild advertising in Riverside Inn, spam, sites dealing with gold selling, ebay links of any kind, etc. But if the site has GW info, and it can be used to answer someone's question, provide a resource for the community, there's a place for it somewhere on here

Thanks Inde. I just wanted to be sure we could use actual links without violating the rules. I won't advertise but I can use a link if needed to help answer a question.
